1. What is the price per person for your different menu package?
Kim's Kitchen has one standard menu for our home-cooked dinner delivery service. The price per person is $85 for 20 days or $170 for 2 pax, $240 for 3 pax, $300 for 4 pax and $360 for 5 pax. All are based on a monthly 20-day basis (5 days per week).
* microwave container at extra $10
* rice at extra $5 per person
2. How is the flexibility like?
a. Do you deliver on weekends, weekdays or PH?
b. How far in advance for cancellation, any make up or money refund?
Kim's Kitchen allows out customers to make changes to the delivery at no charge for about 3 times a month. This is because we understand that there are occasions where our customers have functions or dinners to attend. In that case, we will not deliver the dinner meals to them, as long as they give us one full day notice in advance.
We only deliver on Mondays to Fridays; not on weekends and Public Holidays. Though the general practice in this line is to pay before the food order or on the first day of delivery, Kim's Kitchen has always given a 3 day flexibility pay-period to our customers. As each order period is for 20 days, unless there are special reasons, Kim's Kitchen generally does not practice refund. We also have never encountered any refund cases in our 5 years of operations so far as Kim's Kitchen has a good reputation in keeping our customers satisfied with our food quality and service.
3. If the customer does not like the dish, can they replace the dish?
a. How many times?
b. Any extra charge?
When we first receive an order, we would always find out if the customer has any special preferences. For example, some customers request for non-spicy food only, while others have allergy to certain food and so we will cater to their needs specifically. However, in the situation where our customer does not like a dish stated in the menu (which is given to them every two weeks), they can inform us one full day in advance and we can replace the dish with another style of cooking. However, if the dish is a chicken dish, it will be replaced as another chicken dish. They can request two time changes in the menu with no extra charge per month.
4. How often do you change the menu?
Rather than following the industry standard of updating the menu monthly, at Kim's Kitchen, we update our menus every two weeks ahead. However, the food served each week is different and we rarely repeat any dish within the month, unless the customer requests for it or we find that it is the general favourites. Still, we always ensure that our menu is ever-changing as this is one main pride of Kim's Kitchen - that our customers enjoy the variety that we offer them and that we always keep as close to the planned menu as possible; so as to maintain professionalism in our business.
5. Your food is mixed with Chinese and Western, how are you different from other cater companies?
We pride ourselves in our ability to understand the needs of our clients effectively and are creative in our menus to make every dinner a pleasant experience. We put in extra effort to ensure every dish is cooked well. We believe that a good dish is a team effort and we need to make sure that the simple things are done well from kitchen preparation to delivery.
We believe in a simple theory that the difference in a good dish from a normal dish is the amount of "heart" and extra effort that you put into it. At the same time, we try to be as flexible as we can in meeting each customer's individual preference. Our repeated customers stay with us for these reasons and we are pleased to say that our growth rate is increasing at a steady pace since we started Kim's Kitchen 6 years ago - mainly by word-of-mouth.
6. What factors determine how you plan the menu - is your chef specially trained, is he a former pro cook?
Madam Kim who is the founder of Kim's Kitchen personally plans the menu. She has 23 years experience in the food industry and prior to starting Kim's Kitchen, she has tasted countles of buffets and home-cooked delivery menus. At the same time, she has an acute sense of understanding and pre-empting individual's. This stems from a strong interest in food and also from our loyal customer's feedback. It is hard to put a finger on the factors that determine the planning of our menu, but it can be summarized that at Kim's Kitchen, we certainly put in our hearts in sensing customers' needs and wants. Our main chef is a pro cook with 10 years of experience and is also trained by Madam Kim personally.
7. How far, from customer feedback, what are your best sellers or popular dishes?
From the feedback that we have gathered so far, we have a few hot favourites amongst our customers. They are:
- Unique-sauce chicken (sweet-tasting with tender meat)
- Thai-style fish (tender, spick and boneless)
- Cereal-fragrant prawns (fragrant and crispy)
- Green curry chicken (spicy and creamy)
- Black pepper pork slice (tender and juicy)
- Broccoli and mushrooms (healthful and tasty)
8. What is the delivery timeline like, can the customer request for certain time?
The delivery time is between 3 pm to 7pm, as we only start cooking from 12pm to 3pm. This is to ensure that our food is always at its freshest. Though we understand that the norm of catering companies is start cooking as early as 9am, Madam Kim strongly believes not to compromise on our food quality. If the customer requests for a specific time for the delivery order, we will try to prioritise that order to meet the time within the hour (+/- half and hour).
9. What areas in Singapore do you cover?
At the moment we cover the entire East zone, Bukit Batok, Choa Chu Kang, Hougang and Sengkang. It is in our business plan 2006 to reach out to the whole of Singapore, as we have received many requests from other parts of the island. By reaching to more areas, it certainly means an increase in our staff strength as each driver is only allowed to deliver to 25 to 30 households within a reasonable proximity and time of 3 hours.
10. What is the history of the company? Is the cook specially trained in vegetarian cuisine?
Established in the new millennium, Kims' Kitchen was founded by Madam Kim who is from a family in the food industry. The Tiang family owns coffee shops since the 70's and subsequently progressed into The Oasis at the Kallang Stadium. Being in the food industry personally for 20 years, Madam Kim has tasted countless number of buffets and home-cooked delivery food menus but she felt that none really met up with her high expectations in quality, variety, consistency and taste.
With this in mind and also from the passion in the food business, Madam Kim started Kim's Kitchen by the belief that "every chef can whip up a good dish, but not all are dedicated to cook with their hearts". This is how we believe that we have made a difference with our customers - as we put heart in all that we do. Our company belief is "to serve upon others only what is good enough for our own home". Thus, not only do our chefs meet the stringent requirements in terms of skills, more importantly, they must share our passion. Though our chefs are trained in vegetarian cuisine but Kim's Kitchen does not specialise in vegetarian cuisine.
11. How long has Kim's Kitchen been operating, is it a family-run business?
Kim's Kitchen has been operating for more trhat 6 years since early 2000. We have slowly progressed to be one of the recommended catering companies in the market. Madam Kim and her eldest son run this business together and it will be passed down to the next generation of the Tiang family.
